Math-wizard Riley and her magic-obsessed brother Charles inherit a mysterious mirror from their grandfather.  Now they must decide: stay home with the same old video games or embark on a quest to the Isle of Possibilities?  Spurred on by pirates, the children board the S.S. Barnacleand have adventures that teach lessons about friendship, self-confidence, and teamwork.  The sea goddess Salacia aides Riley, who confronts the trickster spirit Anansi.  Our heroine then encounters story-telling dolphins, dancing hermit crabs, and the mysterious Cave of Lost Socks.  When the children discover a treasure chest, they wonder what secrets lie within?  Who can tell?  Certainly not the pirates’ parrot Polly: “RRRrrrrr!!!”
